Air Force men brutalize bizman, as Dame Jonathan visits Delta(Photo)

#My guy sorry o

A Warri-based businessman, Mr. Larry Otu, has called for investigation and justice into the brutality allegedly meted out on him by men of the Nigerian Air Force at the Osubi Airstrip, Warri, where security was beefed up over Dame Patience Jonathan’s visit to Delta State, yesterday.

Narrating his ordeal to Vanguard, Otu, Chief Executive Officer of LYM Consult, said he was at the airstrip to receive his technical partners from Canada when men from the Warri Air Force Unit stationed at the facility attacked him.He said:

“It happened at about 9am, when our foreign partners arrived the airport and I was there to clear them at the Immigration desk. I drove to the gates to face interrogation from the Air Force men.
“One asked if I knew the President’s wife was coming today. I said yes, but that I have come to pick my foreign partners. He asked what I do for a living; I said I own the company being visited by our technical partners and he said
‘as small as you are?’
“He said okay, find me something. I said I cannot give you anything. So he ordered me to reverse my car and leave. He said I cannot drive in.
“I reversed my car, drove back to the main road and was trekking down to go in when a team of the force men, numbering about eight, pounced on me.”Otu said his attackers dragged him from there to a point behind their caravan office at the airport and continued the beating, kicking, punching and hitting with their guns, adding it took the intervention of his manager who approached one of the officers before the assault was halted.

He said:

“It turned out that my manager knew one of the Air Force officers at the airport. He ran in to tell him that it was his company’s chairman that was being manhandling.
“That was when the officer came and ordered them to stop and let me go. But before I was left with a battered, bloodied face, N200,000 was taken from my pocket by one of them.”The victim called on relevant authorities to ensure justice by bringing the culprits to book.

He said:

“I know the man who started it all and I know the one that took N200,000 from my pocket. We cannot continue to live in this kind of country. Justice must be done.”When contacted, Commanding Officer at the 61 NAF Detachment of the Nigerian Air Force, Warri, AirCommodore, A. D. Dudusola, whose men assaulted the victim, said:
“I was not present when it happened, but they said he was rude.
“Why must it be only him? That is the question that comes to mind. Others came to the airport, identified themselves properly and were allowed in.
“Nobody was touched, so he must have been rude.
“My brother, it is better to face other challenges than to face the worry that somebody came to the airport and blast himself, because it is not always written in somebody’s face. That is the truth.
“We can apologize to him later, but we had to do our job first so that somebody will not create problem for us.”

Jihadi John Unmasked-The Man Behind ISIS Beheading videos is a University Graduate

Missing $20 million Oil Money: Why we can’t publish full details of audit report – Nigerian Govt.

Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke

The Nigerian government has finally opened up on why it has refused to disclose the full findings of investigations into the alleged missing $20 billion oil money, several months after a forensic examination had been concluded by an independent firm.

The audit report by PriceWaterHouseCoopers on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, accused of diverting the money, has been ready since September 2014, but the government has declined repeated demands to make the document public.

Amid pressure from the public and the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, the government early February issued a “highlight” of the report, with a conclusion that the alleged missing $20 billion, exposed by a former Central Bank Governor, Lamido Sanusi, was a farce.

The “highlight” concluded that less than $2billion was missing.

IGP orders full scale investigation into death of Kano prof. who was killed after being mistaken for Boko Haram leader

The Inspector General of Police has ordered a full scale investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of a leading professor of Agriculture at the Ahmadu Bello University ABU, Prof Ahmed Falaki who was killed in Kano on February 15th following suspicions he was a Boko Haram leader.

Narrating how his father was killed, one of the sons of the late Professor said his father had set out on a journey in his official car with his younger brother and his driver to Bauchi state on Saturday Feb. 14th to see a relative. As they were returning to Kano, his car developed a flat Tyre in Fala village in Tudun Wada LGA of Kano State. He said according to his father's driver, while fixing their tyre, some armed men riding on a motorcycle accosted them and demanded for the keys to his SUV which he advised his driver to give to them. The armed men sped off with his car. Shortly after, Fala villagers saw the three men and accused them of being Boko Haram members. They said the prof. was their leader and had given the vehicle to their members.

They started beating his father, his brother and driver and afterwards dragged them to Kibiya police station in Kibiya Local government area of Kano state where the late professor was accused of being a leader of the sect group.

According to the driver, despite the Professor showing them his ABU ID card, they still insisted he was a Boko Haram leader and that his ID card was fake. The villagers continued beating him with all kinds of weapons in the presence of the police officers until he died inside the police station.

The driver said when his boss died, the police men and the villagers started jubilating that they had killed a Boko Haram leader. Officers of the states Special Anti-Roberry Squad SARS afterwards came to collect his body and dropped it off at the state hospital's morgue while the driver and the Professor's brother were taken in handcuff's to the hospital.

A search for the whereabouts of their father led the children to the state morgue where they discovered his body. The hospital management informed them that a SARS officer had dropped their father's body at the morgue. They decided to call the SARS officer to find out what had happened and the officer told them on phone that their father was a Boko Haram leader and that his brother and driver are suspects and would soon be interrogated. The children immediately contacted the ABU school authority who contacted the police to inform them that they had killed a leading agriculturist.

Speaking on the incident, the Kano state Police Command PRO Majia denied any involvement of the police in the murder of the Professor, saying that it was the villagers that killed him outside the police station premises. According to Mr Majia, some gunmen had attacked the villagers and in the process, two people were killed. He said the villager,s suspecting the Professor was one of the armed men, attacked him and killed him.

The professor has since been buried.

The IG has now ordered a full scale investigation into the matter. Below is a press statement from the police.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba CFR, NPOM, NPM, mni, has viewed with great concern the death in Kano, of Prof. Ahmed Falaki of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He has therefore ordered the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge Zone 1, Kano, AIG Tambari Muhammed to conduct an in-depth forensic investigation on the incident with a view to unraveling the circumstances surrounding the attack and death of the renowned Professor of Agriculture.

Meanwhile, some arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and the late professor’s vehicle has been recovered in Bauchi State.

The IGP wishes to assure the deceased’s immediate family and the general public that the Police will do all it takes to meet the ends of justice, while perpetrators of the unfortunate incident will not go unpunished.

How Abuja Businessman was Assassinated on Orders of his Bestfriend

The circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder of Tony Eze, a 39-year-old International businessman based in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, have been unravelled by detectives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The late Eze, from Umuagede village in Nsukka L.G.A. of Enugu State met his untimely death after a night out with friends, including a kinsman from Eha-Alumonah in Enugu State (name withheld).

EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT

Eyewitness account said he was shot dead by two young men on a motor bike who closed in on him while he was trying to avoid a porthole, just a few meters away from the refreshment garden at Tungama area of Zuba in the outskirts of Abuja. He had gone to the garden for conviviality with friends. It was learnt that on the fateful day, November 6, 2014, the father of two was about closing for the day’s business when his kinsman and best friend called to request that they go out for drinks at Zuba. He was said to have initially hesitated before reluctantly agreeing to be at the refreshment garden in the evening.

IN THE LIONS’S DEN

He reportedly left his shop about 5pm and got to the garden where he met three of his friends already seated and enjoying drinks. Crime Guard gathered that about 7:20pm, they all set to leave, moving in a convoy, with his best friend and kinsman driving the car in front. Eze was the last to join before he was blocked and shot dead inside his car.SYMPATHIZERS ARRIVE SCENE OF DEATH

After the owner of the garden and other sympathizers gathered at the scene, his friends reportedly drove back claiming that they heard a bang at their back but thought that Eze must have hit something and that was why they continued without him.ABANDONMENT

Reports said that even after the arrival of his friends at the scene, no serious efforts were made to either take him to the hospital or contact the police at Zuba. Policemen arrived the scene around 11pm and all efforts made to revive Eze in the hospital failed. One of the doctors was said to have reprimanded his friends for not rushing him to the nearest hospital immediately they arrived the scene, saying that he could have survived the gun shots if he had been given immediate medical attention.SARS AND PRIVATE EYE TO THE RESCUE

Nevertheless, it was gathered that police detectives of SARS swung into action after it was noticed that the police at Zuba were lukewarm over the ugly incident. Police sources said their efforts were complemented by those of a Lagos-based private detectives hired by members of the family of the deceased. According to the source: ‘’While we were combing all the nook and cranny of Abuja for clues, the private detectives were busy spreading dragnets all over the country and even beyond, where the deceased had business partners.

BREAKTHROUGH AT LAST

“A startling breakthrough came few weeks back after the private detectives succeeded in arresting a suspect in possession of the phone of the deceased which was the only item his assailants disappeared with after the incident. The suspect turned out to be in the same Aluminium Market where late Eze had his shop. We drilled him for long hours until he capitulated and started confessing how they killed the innocent young man.”

CONFESSIONS GALORE

According to him, two people came to engage their services for the job in their cult group. He gave a detailed description of them and one of the descriptions tallied with that of the late businessman’s best friend and kinsman who also had business in the same market with him. The suspect said that when they asked those that came to hire them why they wanted the man dead, they said he had been importing goods from abroad and needed to be silenced. They were paid N1.2million, some of them got N250,000 while others got N300,000 each.”

HOW OPERATION WAS EXECUTED

Giving a vivid account of how they carried out the operation on the day in question, the suspect said some of them arrived the restaurant earlier than the deceased and sat by a table near where he later sat with his best friend who hired them. ‘He said that as soon as they were ready to go, his friend winked at them at the nearby table and they used their telephone to flash their colleagues who were positioned outside the area as a signal that they should proceed to hit their target. He further said they were told that he would be coming in a car behind. So, his friend quickly drove off in front with the deceased following behind and when they got to the point where they had to join the expressway, the friend in front drove faster. As soon as his friend entered the expressway two of the hired killers blocked the businessman’s car and one of them just pulled out his gun, approached the driver’s side and yanked open the door. While Eze was passionately pleading with them to take whatever they needed and spare his life, the armed man shot him point blank, picked his phone and sped off.’’

Police sources also hinted that after the arrest of five of the suspects at the popular Aluminium Market, Abuja, his best friend confessed during interrogation that the deceased gave him N5million to exchange for him around October 2014, and he was yet to pay him back before he was killed. It was learnt that initially, he wanted to be smart by diverting the attention of detectives to focus their searchlight on one of the brothers to the deceased but when he learnt that one of the killers had confessed to the crime, he withdrew his allegation. Sources said detectives were still searching for the second person that hired the killers together with the best friend to the deceased and would soon arrest him.

FAMILY REACTS

Family sources told Crime Guard that the arrest of their son’s supposed best friend over his death sent shock waves all over the community. According to a member of the family who simply identified himself as Simon( 45) :

‘’ This is the greatest shock we have received in our area in recent times. That suspect is well known to all of us as Tony’s best friend. They used to travel together to China on business trips. In fact, he was closer to our brother than anybody in the family. Whenever we needed to advise our brother, we usually channelled it through this his friend who happens to come from Eha-Alumonah Community, a neighbouring town in Nsukka. Interestingly, this his friend was leading pallbearers during Tony’s burial. He was the first to arrive our compound before other of his friends and business partners arrived. He was shedding tears uncontrollably.
Even after the burial, his wife prepared our traditional food for the bereaved family which friends usually partake in. I can remember vividly that a few days after Tony’s burial, the suspect told some members of our family that he (the deceased) owed some business associates a whooping sum of N12 million and there was urgent need to settle the debt but we swept it aside by telling him that it could come up after the mourning period. I will use this opportunity to thank the Nigeria Police Force and the private detectives for the success recorded so far because these startling confessions and arrests will go a long way to assuage our deep feeling of loss. (In tears) Now see, for how much did they take the precious life of this young, amiable, promising and easy-going young man? Who will train his children and take care of his young wife?

PROBABLE MOTIVE

Crime Guard further gathered that detectives were working on the theory that his best friend was envious of his progress and the boom in his business and hatched the plan not just to eliminate him but also to stop him from asking for the whooping N5million he gave him to change last October. So far, it was learnt that both the suspect that confessed to the killing and the deceased best friend were taken separately to the scene of the crime and they pointed out correctly the table where they sat and the point where Eze was intercepted and killed.

APC slams “barbaric” AIG Mbu for advocating killing of civilians February 14, 2015Press Release

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the police Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 2 Command, Joseph Mbu, as a lawless and barbaric policeman who should urgently be called to order by his boss before he starts another around of his trade-mark nihilism in his new posting.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said Mr. Mbu’s actions since he was posted to Lagos have neither dignified the police as an institution nor portrayed him as a well-trained law enforcement agent.

It said the temperament, comportment, utterances and actions of Mr. Mbu, a very senior police officer, are capable of inciting mass killings, violence and anarchy.

”Since his posting to the Zone 2 Command, this contumacious policeman has exhibited an egregious act of lawlessness by barging through the Lekki Toll Plaza without paying toll and then ordering the arrest of policemen and workers at the Plaza. Is it not an irony that a man who is trained to enforce the law is the same who is breaking the law?

”But that action, as bad as it was, pales into insignificance when compared to his most recent statement in which he was basically inciting the police against the citizenry and encouraging the killing of civilians. It is sheer irresponsibility for a senior policeman to say that for every policeman who is killed during the election, he will kill 20 civilians.

”Lest we are misunderstood, our party will never condone the killing of police personnel or of any law enforcement agent for whatever reason, just as we will not condone the killing of any innocent Nigerian. If a senior police officer does not know how to convey to his officers and men that they should protect themselves while also avoiding extra-judicial killing of any citizen, then the funds spent in training him have been wasted,” APC said.

The party said such languages as “fire-for-fire”, “If one of my men is killed, I shall kill twenty of them” or “you have the power to stop the Governor” are inappropriate, inciting and barbaric, especially under a democratic dispensation, and is most unbecoming of a senior law enforcement agent.

It therefore said Mr. Mbu should be held solely responsible for any violence or killing of innocent citizens before, during and after the elections in the area under his command.

APC warned Mr. Mbu to mind his utterances and actions, shake off all the vestiges of lawlessness and barbarism for which he has become infamous, and comport himself like a senior police officer that he is if he wants to succeed in his new assignment, saying ”if he continues in his old, unedifying ways, he will face a public opprobrium as he has never done before”.

War Funke Akindele Vs Linda Ikeji

Ms. Akindele has asked Ms. Ikeji to retract and apologise within 24 hours for a post on Ms. Ikeji’s blog published
on January 25, titled, Did Funke Akindele shade Toyin Aimakhu last night?

In the post, Ms. Ikeji suggested that an Instagram picture on Ms. Akindele’s page was intended as a slight on fellow actress, Ms. Aimakhu, who was recently rumoured to have separated from her husband, Adeniyi Johnson.

According to Ms. Ikeji, the two actresses had previously fallen out and Ms. Aimakhu had “shaded” Ms. Akindele over the latter’s 2014 divorce.

Ms Akindele, through her management, said thanks to Ms. Ikeji’s blog post, she was exposed to “cynical comments and hasty judgements”.

“(The post has portrayed) Funke Akindele’s brand in bad light,” her management said. “It has promoted unhealthy rivalry where there is none.”

Ms. Akindele’s lawyer, in a seven paragraph letter made available to PREMIUM TIMES said the post was “borne out of pure malice for our client who has carved an inch (sic) for herself in the entertainment industry whilst also inciting hatred between our client and Toyin Aimakhu on one hand and our client and her fans on the other hand.”

Ms. Ikeji was subsequently advised to remove the post, offer a retraction and make available a link to Ms. Akindeke’s team.

Ms. Ikeji could not be reached to comment for this story. Calls to the number listed on her website were unanswered.
