Army Sacks Four More Insurgents’ Camps, Frees 20 Hostages



SAN FRANCISCO, November 07, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Army said on Saturday that it had sacked four more Boko Haram camps in Borno State in the past one week, freeing 20 hostages in the process.

In a statement issued by the media coordinator of the counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast, Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Tukur Gusau , the Army said the liberation was the continuation of the counter-insurgency efforts in the Northeast.

The statement said: “The Troops of 103 Battalion under 21 Brigade early this morning conducted 23 kilometre wide clearance operations in Rigaga and its adjourning villages in Bama axis.

“The operation recorded a major success. four Boko Haram terrorist enclaves along the route of the operations were cleared and a number of terrorists were killed while two were captured alive and currently undergoing investigation in accordance with the Nigerian Army rules of engagement.

“The troops were also able to rescue 20 people held in captivity by the terrorists in the area. They include 14 children and six women. The rescued persons are currently receiving medical and other necessary attention in our facility.

“Similarly, in furtherance to offensive operations towards the clearance of Lagaran Fulani and Ango Baya villages, troops of 28 Task Force Brigade conducted reconnaissance patrol to identify possible blocking positions along Bitta Yamteke Road. During the conduct of the operation troops recovered the following items at Sasawa terrorists camp. The items include IEDs making materials, two cylinders, a Motorola Radio, a Garmin GPS detonating cords and one RPG bomb.”
