Total's chairman/CEO Christophe de Margerie dies in plane crash


Christophe de Margerie, the Chairman and CEO of giant oil company, Total, died in plane crash last night October 20th in Russia. He was 63.

According to a statement released by airport authorities early this morning, de Margerie's private plane collided with a snowplow on the runway of Vnukovo International Airport in Moscow as it was accelerating for takeoff just a few minutes before midnight. They also said in the statement that the driver of the snowplow was intoxicated. The business jet's three crew members also died.

The chief executive who was based in Paris, France had gone t to Russia to attend a meeting of corporate executives with Prime Minister Dmitri A. Medvedev and was returning to Paris when the accident occurred. He is survived by a wife and children. May his soul rest in peace...amen.



Total released a statement on their website this morning, confirming his death. See below

Paris: Total confirms with deep regret and great sadness that Chairman and CEO Christophe de Margerie died just after 10pm (Paris time) on October 20 in a private plane crash at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow, following a collision with a snow removal machine. Four people were found dead at the scene of the accident, including three crew member and Christophe de Margerie. The thoughts of the management and employees of the Group go out to Christophe de Margerie’s wife, children and loved ones as well as to the families of the three other victims.What a snowplow looks like...

Dangote sues Zambian Labour minister over bribe claim


Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote's company in Zambia, Dangote Industries Zambia is suing the country's Labour Minister, Fackson Shamenda, for defamation.

According to AFP, the company initiated the lawsuit after the mr Shamenda claimed that a senior company official of Dangote Industries tried to bribe him.
The company is now seeking unspecified damages for slander and libel as well as special damages in the sum of 112,042.84 kwacha ($17,728), according to documents filed in the High Court.

As G20 Chases Growth Goal, Members Differ On How To Get There




Financial leaders of the Group of 20 top economies remain committed to chasing higher global growth, but were divided on how to achieve it as Germany pushed back at calls from the United States and others for more immediate stimulus.

South Africa rejects Nigeria's explanation over seized $9.3m


Investigators in South Africa have dismissed Nigerian government’s explanations of the purpose of the $9.3 million cash seized from two Nigerians and an Israeli as “flawed and riddled with discrepancies”. The suspects told South African authorities that the money was meant for the procurement of arms for Nigerian intelligence agencies.

Bill Gates offers Nigeria, other countries N8billion to fight Ebola



The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has announced it will be donating $50million (N8billion) to support the efforts of Nigeria and other West African countries hit by the Ebola Virus outbreak in containing the spread of the deadly virus.
Announcing this in a statement issued today September 10th, the foundation said the money will be immediately released to the United Nations agencies and international organizations that are involved in the Ebola fight to enable them and national governments purchase needed supplies and scale up emergency operations. Good News! First Ebola Patient discharged in Lagos


Finally light at the end of the tunnel. The first Ebola patient to be confrimed positive has been discharged in Lagos.
The Minster of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu confirmed this saying the patient ,a female doctor now tested negetive .He however did not reveal her name.He also said five of those undergoing treatment have almost recovered.

It is been confirmed to be Doctor Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, a consultant and Endocrinologist at First Consultant Hospital,Lagos.She was the first to test positive after coming in contact with Sawyer..

He also said Nanosilver (the drug which was to be used on Ebola Patients)failed to pass the ethical test, will not be used.

Photos: Fashola commissions newly refurbished Tejuosho market


Lagos state Governor, Raji Fashola today August 15th commissioned the newly refurbished Tejuosho market in Yaba Lagos, 7 years after the old market structure was completely gutted by fire.

The refurbished market, which used to have 1,484 lockup, has been increased to 2,640. Facilities in the new market complex includes banking spaces, 8 lifts to enable goods, services and people move up, two escalators for up and down movement of people, two ramps designed to assist physically handicapped people to get into and out of the building and a crèche where nursing mothers can attend to and keep their children while they are trading.

There is also a dedicated Fire Service Station within the complex with fire fighting systems built in the market to forestall any incident of fire disaster as well as a dedicated 800-vehicle capacity car-park unit. See more photos after the cut...
