North Korea bans naming children after leader

                             


North Korea has banned its citizens from naming their children after the leader Kim Jong Un in an attempt to defend his authority.

An official North Korean document circulated on Wednesday in Seoul, also warned that parents had also been banned from using the given name Jong Un for their offspring.

A source who preferred anonymity said this was because cult of personality has surrounded each member of the three generations of Kim dynasty that has led the country.

He noted that North Koreans were already prohibited from naming their children after the state founder and “eternal president” Kim Il Sung who died in 1994.

He said the use of Kim Jong Il, the father of the current leader and son of the Kim Il Sung, was also forbidden.
Kim Jong Un became leader of the country in late 2011 when his father died.
