SERIE A champion Juventus on Tuesday hit out at rivals Inter Milan for the "disconcerting events" which led to a swap deal involving Mirko Vucinic and Fredy Guarin collapsing at the 11th hour.
Juve striker Vucinic underwent a medical and appeared to be on the verge of signing for the Nerazzurri, only for Inter president Erick Thohir to pull the plug late on Tuesday afternoon.
Guarin was unsettled at Inter and, according to a report on Sky Italia, had been personally trying to force a move to Juventus.
Juventus, who plays Italian Cup quarter-final opponents Roma at the Olympic Stadium later Tuesday, released an official statement calling Thohir's decision "disconcerting".
"Juventus Football Club does not wish to comment on the statement released by FC Internazionale," it said.
"The club is focused on tonight's Coppa Italia match and will assess and explain the disconcerting events that have come to pass in due course."
According to reports only the players' signatures were required for the deal to be completed, but after Thohir consulted former president and owner Massimo Moratti, as well as management, it fell through.
A statement released by Inter said: "FC Internazionale has decided not to continue negotiations with Juventus regarding the transfer of Fredy Guarin and Mirko Vucinic.
"President Thohir, having conferred with Massimo Moratti and the club's management team, did not feel that the necessary technical and financial conditions were in place to come to a satisfactory agreement.
"The President has already instructed the club's sporting directors to assess other transfer opportunities, with the aim of strengthening the team while respecting the parameters imposed by the Financial Fair Play rules."
