Blind, 24, picked up the injury during the Netherlands’ 6-0 win over Latvia on Saturday.
A ruptured cruciate or medial ligament would have meant the versatile United star could have been sidelined for up to nine months.
But Express Sport understands the 24-year-old has only suffered a slight tear to his ligament and though that is still expected rule him out until the new year, it
is not the long-term injury that could have been the worst case scenario.
Blind’s absence is still a huge blow to United manager Louis Van Gaal who has been hit by a spate of injuries since taking charge at Old Trafford.
