Marwa — My Meeting With Jonathan Has Nothing To Do With Boko Haram

A former military administrator of Lagos State, General Mohammed Buba Marwa, said this morning that his meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, on Monday, has nothing to do with on-going ceasefire talks between the Islamist sect, Boko Haram and the Federal Government, as rumoured in media reports on Tuesday.

The retired Army General, who is a PDP chieftain, said in a statement signed by his media aide, Bello Zubairu, that he was in the villa to hold private talks with the president and not for any meeting on Boko Haram.

“In view of the insinuations in media reports on Tuesday, about the presence of General Marwa in the Presidential Villa on Monday, when the former governor of Borno State also visited the villa, there is the need to issue this clarification and state categorically that General Marwa only had a private meeting with president jonathan shortly before the arrival of the former Borno State governor.

“That General Marwa was leaving the president’s office almost at the time the former governor was coming in was a mere coincidence. While we may not know the purpose of the former governor’s visit, we are certain General Marwa’s meeting with president jonathan was a private one, which had nothing to do with Boko Haram or the ceasefire agreement.

“This clarification was done in response to series of enquiries from the media and prominent Nigerians across the country,” the statement stressed.
