BEVERLY HILLS, October 07, (THEWILL) - Mr. Peter Obi, the erstwhile Governor of Anambra State, South Eastern Nigeria, Tuesday afternoon dumped the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s ruling party.
Obi made the announcement when he received a power-packed delegation of the PDP led by prominent and influential members of the party from the South East and South South.
10RUBIES recalls that Obi fell out with Mr. Willie Obiano, the man he chose and installed as his successor in December 2013. Obi’s problem with Obiano started barely two weeks after Obiano took his oath of office as Governor of Anambra State in March.
It is however not clear why they fell out but insiders in the state said the rift between both men is deep and has even extended to the wives who have been at loggerheads since Obiano won the APGA Governorship primary.
Obi Tuesday at his Onitsha GRA residence received a PDP delegation led by the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekwerumadu where he accepted to join the PDP.
The delegation had visited Obi to ask him to decamp from APGA for the PDP and he obliged after listening to the speakers, which included Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, Abia State Governor, Mr. Theodore Orji, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh and PDP Women leader, Mrs. Kema Chikwe.
The delegation also had Deputy Speaker, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha; SGF Pius Anyim Pius; Governors from the South East; Federal Ministers from the South East, Emeka Nwogu, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, Osita Chidoka and Valarie Onwualili; former Governor of Enugu State, Okwesilieze Nwodo; former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara; Sen. Uche Chukwumerije; Emma Anosike; Sen. Hope Uzodinma; Sen. Ben Obi; Sen. Igwe Paulinus; Mrs. Kema Chikwe; Uche Ekwunife; Chuma Nzeribe, former Minister Stella Adaeze Oduah and Ifeanyi Ubah amongst others.
